Well here we are back in 'Lockdown', or as I like to call it 'Lockdown 2.0' ... So back in Lockdown and home schooling once again! Things have been crazy in the last week preparing for this time once again. I've ended up actually swapping my weeks around to arrange my fortnights to work with the start of Lockdown again. The last thing I wanted to do was my big meal planning and grocery shop on the first week of home schooling again. I just needed to make sure our first week was as organised and simple as possible, so that unfortunetly ment doing another 'main shop' right after already doing one! Money money money and more money! Its been an expensive few weeks!
If you you have been following along and seen my budget update since COVID hit. So my general rule is now $70 per adult (persons aged 14yrs+ because we all know that teenagers eat as much as adults at this point!) and $50 per child (under 14yrs) in the household is the main grocery shop budget for a fortnight. With then a flat $70 for the top up shop in the second week of the fortnight. So in total that is $310 for the fortnight for my family of 4.
Keeping all this mind my budget for my main shop is $240. I’m currently estimating that I will spend around $164 due to an actual click and collect order I have done with Coles. HOWEVER things are a little different this fortnight with the estimate as I do have in my mind to actually go and spend up to my full $240. To do this I'm actually going into the stores and looking for some new things to try for the family. My guess is I will also do some impulse buying .... something I NEVER RECOMMEND lol , so be sure to watch the matching grocery haul to see if I stay under budget !
Some tools I used to do my meal planning were:
